I may not show it, but I care about people. I quit DeviantArt when they kicked out Scott and now SUP laid off the development team. I don't really care if the Russins program better, that's 12 people who put a lot into this site that were dumped in favor of money.
I'll still read your posts, but this is my final post. I've backed up my LJs, and maybe someday I'll have a solid blog again.
For now, jwebnet.net is my command center, and I am on Facebook.
So long and thanks for all the fish.

All websites targeted at users and operated in the United States are required to conform to COPA. This is law, not suggestion.
The website that me niece visits is run by an 18-year old male with a pet named "I Could Freeze You For Being Mean"
His profile says: "I'm the creator of eCritters, and the main programmer. I'm eighteen years old. You probably annoy me."
He has almost no rules except for scamming and art-theft and he wants you to know that "Our standards of obscenity are a bit different from the general population: a post with curse words or sexual references in it is not considered obscene here"
As a result, the forums (which do not require you to be logged in to read) contain an gernal mess of kids (I don't care what THEY think they are) posting about sex, niples and rape, and that's just in the "Middle School" forum.
He also has a game-related IRC channel which is manned by an bot called "InsultSlut".
Registration does not require an age, just a name and an email address (which does not even have to be real)
...
What to do? I did the only LEGAL thing I could do, I reported Leif K-Brooks to the FTC.

to offer holiday greetings and deliver a nice Christmas wreath to the
officers on duty. Apparently the man was acting a bit suspiciously: an
officer called the store next door, where the wreath came from, and
learned it had just been stolen. When confronted, Robert E. Dendy, 59,
allegedly admitted to the theft and was arrested. (Tonawanda News)

Winter is here. We had Thunder Snow again last night. The last time we had thunder snow was during lake storm Aphid, known locally as the October Surprise and other names. I'm listening to the wind outside.
I was talking to a fellow in Texas yesterday and he asked how cold it was:
Me: I don't know.
Him: You are used to the cold when you don't notice it.
Me: *looks it up* It's 29°F with a wind chill of 16°F.
...
It's gotten a bit colder.

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well. Your saturation level is lower than average - You don't stress out over things and don't understand people who do. Finishing projects may sometimes be a challenge, but you schedule time as you see fit and the important things all happen in the end, even if not everyone sees your grand master plan. Your outlook on life can be bright or dark, depending on the situation. You are flexible and see things objectively. |

Not everybody knows how to use the internet to trace someone
Not everybody posts their full contact information
Not every site requires it.
Knowing a username does NOT get anybody but the admins access to an IP address.
Knowing an IP address gets you an ISP who will NOT release the customer's contact info without a warrent
Police can NOT get a warrent at light speed
Police most likely do NOT have a hotline to all ISP NOCs
Next to no ISP employees would be allowed to release customer data to a non-customer, even if the caller said it was a police officer
So to all you people who say "If someone had just called he would have been saved" you have no NO CLUE how the universe works
The fact that the police managed to find him just 12 hours after the initial contact means that they were VERY lucky.
I would guess the normal time to track someone down would be much longer.

Here’s the problem. In order for me to have a fixed opinion on something I have to be able to defend it. Maybe not to other people, but I need to be able to defend it to myself. When I ask “Why do I believe this? Why do I think this is right?”, I need to be able to come up with an answer. Usually I fail. Sometime when I was growing up I gained the ability to see both sides. To see all possibilities. It’s a blessing, and a curse.
The ability to see all posibilities serves me well when I’m trying understand why other people have a view. Why they think a certain way. Why they believe something. No matter how twisted or strange a thought is, I can understand it. That makes it very easy for me to get along with others.
When it becomes a curse is when I try to have an opinion myself. It is great being nutural, but sometimes a person needs to pick a side. To have an opinion. I can’t. To pick a standpoint and defend it requires passion. Passion requires emotion. Sometime when I was growing up I never learned the emotion bit. Maybe Mom was two understanding. She has views, but she has no passion. Nothing she would fight over. Nothing she would fight for.
I have the basic emotions. Love, Hate, Anger. Happiness. I lack the passion. All of those emotions require passion to be proporly felt or used. Without passion I’m a blah person. A person who feels empty. Broken. I’m good at hiding it by staying quiet. Sometimes, I really wish I had passion.
Take this election. Let us step back a few years. Eight, to be exact. I voted for George Bush. Why? Because at that time I was a very different person. I was a identifiable christian. What do I mean by ‘identifiable’? I went to church. I read the bible. I talked about god and jesus. Being an identifiable christian means that I acted like a christian is expected to act. Where you can look at someone and say, “Yep, he’s a Christian”.
One of the things I did as an identifiable christian was to listen to what the media leaders said. WDCX, the non-catholic radio station reminded us that George Bush was a christian. That he stood with everything we wanted as christians. That he stood against everything we hated as christians. That he would take this sinful country and with the backing of god stear us back where we should be. Clean us up. So I voted for him.
Come back to the present. To now. For most of this election I was against John McCain because he was republican. Because he says he stands for the same things that christians stand for. I don’t want god in the government anymore. I don’t think it’s wise, and I don’t think it’s helpful. The other candidates don’t matter because there will not be enough votes for them. It’s pointless to vote for them because the only people who will care will be yourself and the others who want them. That leaves Barrack Obama.
Mr. Obama is a good speaker. He relates well with people and tells us what we want to hear. He understands young people and how we are fed up. He makes sense. Mr. McCain is old. He doesn’t really seem to have a plan, or he’s not sharing it. He’s republican. Mr. Bush likes him and he likes Mr. Bush. Why would you want him?
Here’s the problem I now have; Mr. Obama seems to want socialism. For days my co-worker has been telling me this, and I didn’t want to listen. Then I did some reading. From http://www.realclearpolitics.com/article
HANNITY: Which — this has now become a mantra. Now Joe Biden had a little bit of a meltdown in an interview not far from here where you’re going to be later today, outside of Orlando in Kissimmee, when he was saying, well, to each, according to his needs, from each according to his ability. He didn’t like that question.
The bolding is mine. I can’t find a transcript to see if Mr. Biden actually worded it like that, but the bolded part poses a problem. I am not an expert on history, but that phrase is part of a saying by Karl Marx. This man was the founder of communism. Based on that and that alone, I now think that McCain is a better choice. I’d write more but I run into another problem I have. When I start linking, I loose my train of thought.
